Today I offer you a cabbage and rice stew. A complete stew that is easy to make and economical, yet delicious, balanced and comforting. Like all stews, it can be prepared ahead of time and reheated for better results.
This is a specialty of Moldova called “Sarmale lenoase” which means “Sarmale pareseuses”. Sarmale are rolled cabbage or vine leaves stuffed with meat and rice – a festive dish of Moldovan cuisine. You can find the recipe on my blog isi wait isi. Today’s recipe is an unstructured version of the original recipe that’s much faster to make. We found the same ingredients, but the presentation was simple and rustic, making this a dish that can be enjoyed every day.
I used pork but you can use any meat you want. What’s more, this recipe can be made into a vegan version that doesn’t add any meat at all and is still delicious.
