(Re)finding a job sometimes seems impossible. This road is long and difficult, and you can give up your self-esteem. But don’t be discouraged: we ask experts for help!
Unemployment is a reality that affects or can touch everyone. In Belgium, the employment rate for 20-64 years is estimated to be 72.3% (Statbel figures) in the third quarter of 2024. Looking for a job? Rather than belittle yourself and feel introverted, you should be inspired by these attitudes that help to be interviewed and get advice from professionals.
1. Know your status
Turning on online announcements is enough to achieve this: some offers are based on employment assistance conditions. If you do not meet the administrative recruitment criteria, please apply for it. Léna Moussy, a consultant at Crossroads Training and Guidance (CEFO), insisted: “This is the first thing we asked for inspection. We found all kinds of information from her union, Forem or Actiris services.”
2. Realize that finding a job is a job in itself
This is the title of the book: Find a job and work by yourself. His author Béatrice Lecomte, working psychologist and researcher Philippe Eray, insists that we can see finding a job as a real professional activity. This is the best way to find one! Your entourage must respect it, not “manage all the people who manage it because it has nothing to do.”
Alas, the working conditions of this new job are complicated: we are in charge of his schedule, we don’t know the duration, we stayed alone on the mountain… downgrade! Solution? According to Béatrice Lecomte and Philippe Eray, the subjects:
- Delicious food your activities: Create programs, steps, deadlines…
- Set up a clear schedule.
- Keep the traces of work: Create a tracking table and complete the agenda carefully. See your productivity.
3. Create a working structure
Don’t stay in front of the computer! Leave your home as if you were going to the office. Some tracks:
- “At CEFO, job seekers can find computers and work there,” explains Léna Moussy. Friendships have been established, even couples! This makes it possible to encourage yourself while also finding answers to his questions. We also organized thematic group seminars. “
- In Brussels, Cité des Métiers welcomes you to provide you with personalized advice or space dedicated to job search.
- What if you want to cooperate? Some structures offer flexible formulas that allow you to replace air without breaking the bank.
- Share your situation with several people, exchange your skills and hits on people, and create a WhatsApp group. You will see like a remote work colleague!
- Think of the library’s reading room. You’ll find the entire stress, hourly setting and a friendly and friendly atmosphere there.
4. Negative thoughts on hunting
- The reason to chase destructive. psychotherapist and PSY director Dimitri Haïkin. Léna Moussy: “In an interview, like in a cover letter or resume, take your value. From these years of work research, you’ve learned. You’ve developed other skills that might be useful.”
- Don’t do it through rejection or silence. Today, unfortunately, the lack of answers has become part of the game, but not for you. At the same time, cultivate meaningful activities during leisure.
- Retreat with resentment. Léna Moussy: “Don’t do anything to your previous business during the interview. Recruiters know that if you do this today, you can do it tomorrow.”
5. Define your project clearly
What do you want? Find a job. Yes, but which one? Don’t rush to find the first counter. Dimitri Haïkin: “What is a good job? It’s a job, and you feel like you’re like a fish in the water, it makes sense, it’s fun! Many people don’t know what they’ve done. Sometimes you have to do a skill assessment.”
Léna MoussyOpine: “There are some guidance tests that lead to business advice and highlight their difficulties. This also enables you to face a personal project with reality, its desires and personality. For example, if I face someone who announces that they want to open up his business, where would I be, what would I be if her personal tools and his account manage.”
6. Training again and again
What kind of work do you really need to make you dream? It is impossible to provide a universal response. On the other hand, if you observe announcements and listen to a debriefing for a job interview (if any), you can draw valuable information. This must let you know your priorities: by license, learn a language (Dutch, English or sometimes Spanish, Arabic, etc.), train you on such computers or computer programs like this, improve your spelling, follow sustainable building training… anything is possible!
- Consult the Brussels Group, IFAPME, ACTIRIS or FOREM network for available training (and access conditions).
- If you live in Wallonia, sign up for Wallangues to benefit from your language courses.
7. Explore all tracks
Léna Moussy: “You have to increase her chances, not just work online! You have to use spontaneous candidates, word of mouth… Why not go to the commune counter to ask for a list of companies for recruitment activities, if you want to be the health care minister, for example, identify all the nearby pharmaceutical companies and send letters.”
8. Create a link with the company
Don’t show it, you’re rarely the only candidate for a job. Léna Moussy: “Employer needs to be assured. You won’t let anyone be in his house, and it’s the same in his business. He must not only understand our expertise, but also our skills, how to slap functions in her box.”
If you find the company dynamic in a job offer, then you must do so.
She advocates: “If you read a job opportunity and you find that the company is dynamic, you have to be. I have a man who wants to work in a classification center. On the company’s website, they quote 3 values, one of which corresponds exactly to the world of candidates. He quotes it in motivational characters.”
9. Using social networks
Léna Moussy warned: “There are purely professional networks, such as LinkedIn, which is indeed or Jobat. On LinkedIn, it’s an interesting source of information. It’s a great source of information before the interview. Go and look at the profile of company employees, get to know the values and the latest news.”
Facebook or Instagram is not professional, but recruiters sometimes use it to see the life of candidates: “So, it’s dangerous to show up in a bikini and get drunk on the beach! I encourage candidates to make sure their private profiles and create professional pages.”
- googog checks your electronic instructions yourself.
- Avoid reacting on forums or media Facebook pages.
- Control the petition you signed and beware of the groups you like.
10. Think of you as a brand
In terms, we talk about “personal branding.” That means a way to develop your online presence to show that you are an expert and ideal. In this sense, be creative! Léna Moussy: “One of my candidates created a ‘job search profile’ where she expressed her mood as if she was successful. She also thanked the recruiters and told her what she learned from the interview in an always positive way. Winning a permanent contract is decisive.” It could be a Facebook page, an already-existing blog where you can talk about your skills and expectations.
11. thinking of you
When you are looking for a job, you will soon feel intimate about having a good time. But, in the long run, the moment of relaxation is crucial! This is the advocates of Béatrice Lecomte and Philippe Eray: Keep your hobbies and don’t feel ashamed to enjoy the joy of your life during your vacation. “Job seekers who have the ability to take up their spare time can maintain good overall health. Self-esteem is hardly lost to employment, while current time is escalated.”
Job seekers who can take up their spare time can maintain good overall health.
Fill in the event, service services are also very useful for finding a job! “It’s a way to charge batteries and develop skills to be valued. Never forget to mention your passion on your resume.” If you take care of your parents, neighbors, not your kids…
