Save money on accommodation and enjoy your experience better

Instead of spending thousands of euros on a hotel or traditional rental, we use home exchange and defines our research “GuestPoints only”. I love this feature: it allows us to keep our home available when the kids are around, while also allowing us to enjoy incredible stays around the world.

In 2022 we renovated the entire house so everything is new! Our house has a living room with dining area

One night we even sat on the balcony and watched a thunderstorm move across the sky, intermittently lighting up the towers of the Sagrada Familia. It was one of the most gripping and surreal moments of my life. I remember thinking: We just paid our annual fee and here we are.

To put things in perspective, a standard hotel room with a view of the Sagrada Familia in the center of Barcelona costs between 350 and 500 euros per night.
Even an Airbnb in the same area can easily cost 300 euros or more per night, not including cleaning and service fees.

For a week’s stay this would represent 2 000$ and 3 000$ Just for the accommodation, even though we only paid the annual membership fee 235$ (Subscription amount is in US dollars).
We were able to reinvest those savings into our future family trip to Japan!

With these savings, we are able to focus our budget on the experiences that really matter:

• Day trip to Montserrat and Costa Brava.
• Tapas stroll through the Gothic Quarter.
• Visit Gaudi’s masterpieces, from Park Güell to Casa Batlló.
• There were also some wine and cava tastings to add color to our evening of celebrations.

It’s these moments that make our anniversary so special, and it’s HomeExchange that makes them possible.

Live like a local (with a touristy view!)

One of the most unexpected gifts of our exchange in Barcelona was the feeling of living like a local.
Yes, we were in a busy neighborhood, but the apartment itself was quiet and peaceful and a true refuge after a few days of exploring.

Every morning we drank coffee and watched the sun rise over the Sagrada Familia. Every evening we see the cathedral lit up at night.

This pace of life, combined with truly comfortable accommodation: refrigerator, washing machine, comfortable lounge, gave us a tranquility that we would never get in a hotel.

No car required: the apartment is centrally located, a stone’s throw from the metro and buses. This saves us even more money…and stress!

Tips for organizing your own home exchange
