Where will we eat?

In the gastronomic capital of the world, cooking is an art, a tradition passed down from generation to generation, carried on by figures such as Madame de Lyon and Paul Bocuse. Les Bouchons embodies this culinary specialty perfectly: a small family restaurant where we share hearty dishes typical of the region in a friendly atmosphere. You can enjoy meatballs, Lyonnaise salad or flan. All accompanied by a glass of local wine.

But the city is not limited to traffic jams: cafes, vegetarian restaurants and food markets offer a modern and diverse gastronomic panorama. There’s something for everyone!

1. Daniel & Denise, modern cork

Real cork reinvented by chef Joseph Viola of Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Here, the conviviality of the red-checkered tablecloth meets gourmet standards. Omelette priest, pâté, kidneys… this place is full of traditional Lyon high-end cuisine.

This restaurant offers creative dishes based on local flora in an intimate setting: exposed stone, intimate mezzanines, greenery… It’s a bistro restaurant where everything is designed to surprise, including the wine list, which is made up of organic or natural suggestions.

Head to Confluence to experience this next-generation food court. Four containers welcome different chefs each week, with promises: short circuit, seasonal and at least one vegetarian option. Friendly atmosphere, good street food and low prices (15 euros in total).

We tested and liked:

  • “Desjeuneur”, for Cheap brunchwe haven’t found anything better yet. This recipe costs less than 25 euros and allows you to enjoy sweet, savory and homemade drinks throughout the day. No reservations but enough turnover to avoid long waits. Local products, often organic (local farms).
  • Café Gadagne is located in the museum of the same name, 4 minutes from Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral. Brunch was buffet style and we could eat as much as we wanted and then we went to the garden, A pastoral oasis in the heart of the city. Then, “climb” Mount Fourvière and enter Notre Dame Cathedral. The architecture, stained glass, mosaics… mesmerizing!
  • Panoramic terrace of the Opera House, Cocktails at the end of the day. The sun sets in front of you, in the cathedral! Rest somewhere else, the dinner menu is not very appealing.
  • Canute and the dead, A community bistro in the Red Cross district This gives vegetables an important role. Impeccable plate, comfortable but not classic. That night: delicious fig cheesecake!
  • Don’t leave Lyon without passing by the Halles Bocuse. Don’t make it a lunch stop per se (the friendliest tables get snatched up quickly), but since you’re only a few hundred meters away from the TGV stations, it’s pleasant to walk through them. you will benefit from it Bring back food memories (Especially the brioche with pink praline).
