Give your home a festive scent with a slow cooker holiday simmer

A slow cooker is an easy way to infuse your home with warm and inviting seasonal aromas. Just gather a few ingredients like oranges, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and apple juice, throw them in your Hamilton Beach® Slow Cooker, and enjoy this all-natural air freshener that’s the best thing of the year. Perfect choice for a great time.

Capturing the scents of the season with a slow cooker

Every year, I buy cheap ground spices from a kitchen store and simmer them all season long in my Hamilton Beach slow cooker. I start simmering these spices in the slow cooker the day after Thanksgiving and my kids instantly know the holiday is coming. It literally makes my house smell amazing like the seasons. And it was easy to get the mixture to simmer in the slow cooker instead of on my gas stove.

There are many ways to customize this recipe. For example, if you prefer an earthier scent, swap out the citrus and cinnamon for nutmeg and cranberry. I also like to add chopped rosemary and mix in some star anise. Follow our fall crockpot suggestions below, or try your own recipe.

Remember to turn off your slow cooker (or program it if you have a programmable slow cooker) before bed.
